INTRO TO TECHNICAL DRAWING
In the first assignment, we were required to draw a set of 5 of technical drawing of a chosen object on an A3 paper. Technical drawings are graphical presentation of an object that explains the details and these drawing visualizes in how the object is made. The goal of this assignment, is for us to apply observation skills and to be able understand the forms and shape of the object. It is also for us to understand about plan view, elevation and section and able to transform 3d space and object onto 2d orthographic drawings.
PRODUCT
Firstly, I had to get the confirmation from Ms Ann of which object to choose to draw. The object must have only one symmetrical axis because to be able to draw different elevations with different elements in them. Since the drawings have to be in a 1:1 scale, I chose a toy car.
To draw the plan view, I had to measure the top of the car, the hood of the car and the boot of the car. After that, I had to analyse the details to know where the details are located.
PRODUCT
To draw the elevations, I had to measure the front, back and the sides which includes the wheels, doors and more.
PRODUCT
To draw the section, I had to measure the width of the body on which I cut.
REFLECTION
In conclusion, in the first assignment I had learnt about how to observe the details of the 3-dimensional object and transform it into 2-dimensional drawing. It was a new experience for me because some angles when viewing at an item you would see volume, like perspective but in technical drawing only catches the detail of each sides which is its 2-dimensional shape.
